Adding elements in transit…

I’ve been attempting to integrate some new elements into the Iceland Cold novel. Having been editing I realised that some of the character motivations seemed sketchy, or were ‘described attributes’ – I’d said character X was inquisitive, and that was a key part of what drives the novel, yet he was not actually inquisitive at any point in the narrative.

So I’ve added some additional background, some flashbacks, there’s a key moment that fitted in nicely to a specific part of the early scenes that then has a much heftier pay off in a later seen that otherwise seemed a bit light.

Ironically the reason it was a bit light was that I’d amended one event in the same part of the novel to better suit the main character’s personality and it had ended up detracting from the impact of the later scene.

Practically over about two months I’ve swapped who does the relevant action, the reasons for it and I’m a lot happier with the end result.

Once I get this one done, on to finishing the witch pursuit novels. And they’ll benefit a lot from the additional background I’ve incorporated in this one.

Onwards!
